Not so long ago the simulation of building a floating city made of garbage Flotsam was released. And on this page you will find a detailed guide to the main game mechanics.

Interface. First, let’s deal with the controls. In the upper left corner there is a main menu button, a survival guide, and buttons to control the camera and game speed. The top center shows the main resources – food, water, wood, plastic, and scrap metal. On the right is the number of boats and docks, people, and places in houses.

At the bottom of the screen – from left to right: buoy control buttons, construction menu, research panel, map, and warehouse. At the bottom right there are also buttons for managing priorities for drifters and a menu of resource gathering/creating limits.

Buoys, boats. To start collecting resources you need to set up a buoy, to do this we click on the button with the floating man and select the place of collection. You can enlarge the area by clicking on the X button. Once the boats are built, two more buttons will become available – collecting on the boat and fishing. Boats allow you to collect resources at a greater distance from the city, and to sail to landmark islands. To build a boat, you first need to build a dock for it. To do this you will need rope, which is made in the workshop.

Map. Sooner or later the resources around the city will run out, and it will be necessary to move on. To do this you need to build a sail and open a map. Choose a destination and press the Move button. Next it will be possible to find fuel and move in other directions. On the way will need to choose directions, and which locations to skip, and which to enter.

Drifters. The inhabitants of the floating city, the Drifters, are willing to do all the work offered for the sake of survival. Some buildings, such as workshops, require a Drifter to be present at all times in order to work. This should be taken into account when planning production.

Drifters also have needs. They need food and water, as well as a home to rest in. If the town runs out of food or water, Drifters will start getting sick and eventually die.

Warehouse Management. All collected and manufactured resources and food are stored in warehouses. If you click on a warehouse, you can see what resources are stored in it. And on the right side there is a panel for settings. There you can choose which resources can be stored in this warehouse and which can’t. So you can place fish closer to the cooking area, and food only in the Heart of the City, and so on.

I hope this Flotsam game guide will help you quickly get the hang of the game and not give your drifters
